Wool Rug Cleaning Service
Wool rugs are timeless pieces that add warmth, elegance, and luxury to any space. However, to maintain their beauty and longevity, proper cleaning and maintenance are essential. Whether you have a traditional hand-knotted masterpiece or a contemporary wool area rug, Regular professional cleaning of your wool rug will ensure your prized possession remains in top-notch condition.
Why Clean Wool Rugs Regularly?
Regular deep cleaning of wool rugs not only keeps them visually appealing but also prolongs their lifespan. Wool is a natural fiber known for its durability and resilience, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas. However, wool fibers can trap dust, dirt, and allergens, leading to a build-up that can damage the rug over time. Consistent cleaning not only enhances the rug’s appearance but also contributes to a healthier indoor environment, especially for those with respiratory sensitivities.
How to care for your wool rugs at home:
- Vacuuming: The first line of defense in maintaining a clean wool rug is regular vacuuming. However, be gentle while vacuuming the fringes to avoid damage.
- Rotating: To minimize wear and tear on specific areas of the rug, rotate it every few months. This simple step ensures even distribution of foot traffic, preserving the rug’s beauty and integrity.
- Sunlight Exposure: Avoid placing wool rugs in direct sunlight, as this can cause the colors to fade over time. If you have no other option, use curtains or blinds to shield the rug from prolonged exposure.
What we do to clean your wool rug
Our wool rug cleaning process begins with meticulously dusting the rug in our custom made tumble duster. As the wool rug tumbles for up to an hour, the fibers open up and the rug gently beats on itself to loosen embedded dust, dirt and allergens. This method of dusting is much more effective than simply vacuuming or even using rug beaters that seem to be popular in our industry.
The next process in wool rug cleaning is to lay the rug upside down and use a pressure washer on the back of the rug. This forces water through the rug and pushes dirt and stains to the surface. Most rug cleaning companies skip pressure washing the back of the rug and will only ever wash the surface of wool rugs which can actually push dirt further into the pile. We then flip the rug correct side up and repeat with the pressure washer, this time penetrating deep within the wool fibers and washing away dirt and stains.
We follow up the pressure washing with an enzyme soak where we soak the entire rug in an enzyme solution for 40 minutes. This allows the enzymes to break down the proteins of stains from pets and neutralise odours.
Now the rug is ready for shampooing. We use a gentle Wool Safe detergent similar to household laundry detergent. We work in the shampoo deep into the wool rug pile with a soft brush rotary scrubber and allow it to dwell. We then rinse the rug with plenty of fresh water.
